Strategy to implement the requirements of Article 11, Clause 3 (l) of the Water Framework Directive to prevent or to reduce the impacts of accidental water pollution caused by technical installations failures

The ICPER’s Accidental Water Pollution Work Group (H) gives expert support to one of the research projects by the German Federal Environmental Agency (UBA). To meet the requrements of the Water Framework Directive’s programmes of measures, this project focuses on the development of specific proposals to implement the Article 11, Clause 3 (l) of the WFD and it should accent the Directive’s impact in the international river basin districts regarding cases of accident-induced water pollution.

The project strives to harmonize the requirements that lead to achieving a comparable level of safety within the meaning of Article 11, Clause 3 (l) of the WFD while managing waters in hydrological basins. Special prominence is given to the coordination between the international river commissions.
